The first modern perfume

Sowing suspenseful seeds of seduction as she goes, Jicky mischievously plays with the ambiguity of her androgynous curves. Behind the figure of Jicky is a woman Aimé Guerlain fell in love with when studying in England. In paying homage to this youthful love affair, the perfumer created a scent so revolutionary that it was named the first modern perfume. Breaking with all masculine-feminine conventions, Jicky stuns with its radical play on contrasts. As its lemon-lavender, fougère accord breathes cold, its woody, vanilla notes bring warmth and character. Perplexing women and captivating men, it wasn’t long before Jicky was adopted by both, to be known forever as “emotion in a bottle”.

A legend of androgynous love, the ambiguity of lavender and vanilla

Spicy notes bloom from a warm ambery facet to play ingeniously against an aromatic, fresh heart filled with lemon and lavender notes. Meanwhile, woody vanilla notes bring bold structure and vibrating personality to the fragrance.

Fougère accord

The fougère accord combines aromatic bergamot, lavender and rosemary notes with woody notes.

Vanilla

As a signature ingredient used by the Guerlain Maison, vanilla forms an essential part of “Guerlinade”. As such Guerlain perfumers have relentlessly sought out the most beautiful vanilla varieties.
Vanilla brings a gourmand, sensual note to perfume.

Lavender

The lavender used by Guerlain grows in the south of France. Harvested in summer and steam distilled on site to obtain lavender essence, it gives perfume an aromatic and floral freshness.

HOUSE SECRETS

When Aimé Guerlain created Jicky in 1889 using the two newly discovered Vanillin and Coumarin molecules, the perfumer ushered in a new era in modern “emotive” perfume. Fragrances that didn’t simply replicate the scent of flowers but which sparked emotion.

That same year Baron Eiffel’s shocking new tower was built with many declaring it a “provocation”.

A LEGENDARY BOTTLE

Designed by Raymond Guerlain in 1912, its iconic “inverted heart” bottle is underscored with graceful scrolls typical of Art Nouveau. Its avant-garde stopper, in the form of a hollowed heart, evokes the delicate romanticism of this perfumery masterpiece and represented a real technical feat at the time.
