MUGUET

BY YANN PHILIPPE AND ARTIFICIAL INTELLIGENCE
It is to Guerlain’s Master Perfumer that we owe the feat of reproducing the fragrance of lily of the valley. Described as ”mute”, its natural essence is impossible to extract. Guerlain’s Muguet, composed since 2016 by Thierry Wasser, captures as faithfully as possible the scent of the lucky sprigs. In a burst of freshness, the green notes meeting the floral preciousness of jasmine and rose adorn this emblematic trail with soft and pearly green and rosy facets. At the heart of this bouquet, the olfactory illusion of a freshly picked sprig of lily of the valley emerges.
For this innovative Millésime, Guerlain invited Yann Philippe to integrate image-generation tools into his creative process. Artificial intelligence is set up as a technical support to magnify the artist’s vision: Yann Philippe fed the artificial intelligence with meticulously assembled images of microscopic views of the flower and with previous editions of Muguet Bee Bottles. As the proposals evolved, he constrained the software and refined the aesthetics of the images generated, before modeling the structure and reintroducing it into the artificial intelligence system. This creative ballet opened a window onto the unexpected.
The result of this unprecedented creative process is a modern, elegant piece of jewelry. The idea of a stylistic representation, delicately abstracted, of a lily-of-the-valley cell has given birth to a jewel of infinite delicacy. The adornment evokes, in turn, a caged dress or stems embracing the legendary bottle, until the poetic blossoming of lily-of-the-valley bells in the form of pearls. The scrolls, inspired by the spirit of Art Nouveau and gilded in 18-carat gold, draw fine arabesques, allowing the transparency of the glass to stand out.
Graduated from the École des Gobelins and passionate about photography, Yann Philippe stands out for his poetic, impressionistic pictures that transcend the perception of the visible. In powerful visual narratives, Yann Philippe explores the interaction between the human imprint and nature. Combining technical expertise and dreamlike vision, this explorer of invisible worlds reveals the hidden side of familiar landscapes. By guiding artificial intelligence, he sought to reveal the intimate mysteries of the flower, usually invisible to the naked eye, in the form of a jewel.
