The adrenalin and the thrill of discovery make her blush with pleasure... Her life as a woman is just beginning. She’s filled with innocence as well as daring. As she dives into adventures and explores the newly found mysterious powers of femininity one fragrance accompanies her: L'Initial, a fragrance that suggests an entrance into a new world, and the passage into adulthood. Inspired by the unforgettable Shalimar, Thierry Wasser composed this luminous ambery floral for his young niece. Beneath a shower of citrus and jasmine, blossoms a rose and iris pallida heart caressed by vanilla. This, with all the freshness of barely expressed sensuality. L'Initial tells the tale of a young girl dreaming of her first love.

A legend of first love, trembling with rose, iris and vanilla

From the head L’Initial sparkles with citrus zest and a highly perfumed shower of jasmine petals. The heart then blossoms around a rose absolute overdosed with iris pallida, while the soft, gourmand base delights in a combination of smooth vanilla topped with caramel and paired with delicately sweet tonka bean. All completed with a misty cloud of white musk.

ROSE

Harvested in Bulgaria and too delicate to travel, roses are made into an essential oil on site using steam and/or direct fire distillation.
The resulting rose oil brings a floral and fruity note to fragrances.

IRIS

A precious material, the iris deserves its nickname as the "blue gold" of perfumery, exhaling a refined, faceted fragrance with powdery, woody accents.
At Guerlain, iris is a key ingredient of “Guerlinade”. Across time periods, this flower has made its mark on some of the House's most legendary compositions.

VANILLA

As a signature ingredient used by the Guerlain Maison, vanilla forms an essential part of “Guerlinade”. As such Guerlain perfumers have relentlessly sought out the most beautiful vanilla varieties.
Vanilla brings a gourmand, sensual note to perfume.

HOUSE SECRETS

A rediscovery of Shalimar’s scent, L’Initial takes Shalimar’s spirit and its unforgettable signature to create a fragrance without Shalimar’s opulent sensuality. For Thierry Wasser, paying tribute to this masterpiece in perfumery meant his new fragrance needed “to maintain the alchemy that made it so desirable, illuminate without holding back, transpose without betraying and look to the future while honouring the past.”

A LEGENDARY BOTTLE

Designed by Raymond Guerlain in 1912, its iconic “inverted heart” bottle is underscored with graceful scrolls typical of Art Nouveau. Its avant-garde stopper, in the form of a hollowed heart, evokes the delicate romanticism of this perfumery masterpiece and represented a real technical feat at the time.
